GENERAL CONFERENCE 2K15

This is my super-belated post about General Conference - only my favorite time of year!

For those who don't know, in the Mormon church we get together twice a year and listen to inspired messages from our church leaders.  I am not kidding when I say that I wish we could have Conference every weekend: I just love it that much!

General Conference is set up in 2-hour blocks, with four main sessions and two specialized sessions.  The general sessions are split between Saturday & Sunday, so this means that the entire weekend is full of Conference goodness.  This year was a bonus, since it fell on Easter weekend!

Here at college it is at first a bit strange not watching Conference with my family - I mean, that is how I have done it for the first 18 years of my life!  Yet quickly I have found that Conference is Conference no matter where you are, no matter who you are with.  My roommates, neighbors, and I all gathered in our living room and snuggled on the couch together, sang the hymns with gusto, and helped each other remember how to spell some of the foreign names that were on the screen for only a few seconds.

This weekend was heavenly.

In between sessions on Saturday we had a mini BBQ behind our apartment, and since I have General Conference weekend as one of my approved "cheat days," I ate like six hotdog buns

I like to look for overall themes or particular messages that stick out to me each Conference, and this year I felt touched by these three main things: God's plan, marriage & family, and temple work.

Since it was Easter, I also noticed the additional emphasis of Christ's love and the Atonement, which in my mind ties together with EVERY message given.

Lately I have also began to work more play around with my family history.

There is this amazing website that allows you to see a 9 generation fan chart of your ancestors, as well as create a lovely name cloud for popular names in your ancestry.

Baby name ideas, anyone?
